What is Hyper-Converged Infrastructure?
Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) consolidates computing, storage, networking, and management resources into
a flexible software-defined environment, hosted on a single, high-performance server. This allows for a higher level of flexibility, scalability, and cost control than is possible with most legacy solutions.
What is Azure Stack HCI?
Azure Stack HCI is a hyper-converged virtualisation solution that combines the industry-leading Azure Cloud with dedicated infrastructure, hosted on-premises, in a data centre, or at the edge, with the entire infrastructure managed through the Azure portal. Each Azure HCI system consists of between 1-16 physical servers with common configurations and resources, managed via Windows Server Failover Clustering.
This way, the full benefits of both dedicated infrastructure and Azure Cloud are combined to optimise the performance and availability of VMs, selected PaaS functions, containerised workloads, and Azure Virtual Desktop.
