What is Ethernet?
Ethernet connectivity is a Layer 2 service. Traditionally used to transfer data in the Local Area Network (LAN) its simplicity and scalability now mean it’s extensively used in the Wide Area Network (WAN). Exponential-e Ethernet speeds in the WAN can support a data rate of up to 10 gigabits per second.
Exponential-e WAN Ethernet services deliver uncontended, symmetrical and low latency connectivity to your sites ensuring reliable and consistent performance.
Exponential-e uses many different technologies to deliver Ethernet connectivity;
Ethernet over Fibre
Ethernet over Fibre is a standard fibre-optic tail circuit between the customer site and Exponential-e’s core Network.
Ethernet over Copper
Ethernet over Copper is a copper-based circuit between the customer site and Exponential-e’s core Network. Ethernet over Copper can be delivered as Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) which bonds up to 8 copper pairs between the customer site and the local exchange.
Ethernet over Fibre or Copper - Cross Connect
The Cross Connect is a standard fibre-optic or CAT-5 copper cross-connect between the customer rack and Exponential-e’s cabinet.
Broadband connectivity is a Layer 3 service. Broadband’s ubiquitous nature makes it an ideal method to connect smaller sites and provide back up to larger sites. Exponential-e Broadband services deliver flexibile, asymmetrical services in a cost efficient manner ensuring performance and reliability to your large and small sites.
Exponential-e uses many different broadband technologies to deliver Broadband connectivity;
A private Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) over a copper pair to a secure access gateway on Exponential-e’s core network. This is an asymmetric access mechanism, providing higher download speeds than upload.
Depending on the customer’s requirements we can deliver ADSL as either ADSL Max (Up to 8 Mbps download and 488 Kbps upload) or ADSL 2+ (Up to 24 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload).
A private Very High Speed Digital Line (VDSL) over a copper pair between the customer site and the local cabinet. Fibre circuits will be used to connect the local cabinet to Exponential-e’s core network. This is an asymmetric access mechanism, providing higher download speeds than upload (Up to 80 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload).
Generic Ethernet Access (GEA)
GEA is an Ethernet service based on FTTC providing symmetrical data connectivity of upto 20M/bs. GEA is perfect for users who want a reliable, SLA backed service to allow them to run their businesses.
